The Finer Things

Switch Homes’ gorgeous custom build at 118A Toorak Road in Rivervale is just what the family ordered.

Built to accommodate a professional couple, their three adult children as well as guests and visitors, the home boasts a myriad of different spaces in which to relax, according to Switch Homes construction manager Adrian Schneeberger.

“A couple of the children moved out so now there is just the two adults and a teenager,” He said. “The client wanted plenty of space for the whole family to enjoy time together, as well as room to retreat to something more quiet.

“Four distinct areas were created: the upstairs sitting room, theatre, open-plan living and dining and the outdoor hub including pool, alfresco area and upstairs balcony, providing plenty of room for a large growing family.”

Starting off with a stunning front façade, a stone feature wall echoes the colours of the garage and front render, and the home employs distinctive geometrics and palettes to shape an attractive and distinctive look.

“The owners were looking for a naturally inspired colour palette and the stone provides not just an interesting feature, but a textural element to the front of the home,” Adrian says.

“These earthly greys and natural tones are carried throughout the home and include bamboo roofing to the alfresco and balcony, natural stone and marble for flooring and benchtops, dark laminate in the kitchen, pulling from the stone feature.”

Three bathrooms and a three- car garage service the family perfectly, whilst five bedrooms are all larger than average and boast walk-in robes. A large guest room is positioned downstairs whilst the remaining bedrooms reside upstairs.

The upstairs balcony offers all sorts of entertainment possibilities, with room for a dining suite or comfy lounges to take in the sunset with a glass of wine.

“There is a balcony at the front of the house with views out to the Perth Hills,” Adrian says. “It is another sanctuary in which to escape from the daily grind.”

Venturing to the rear of the home is a luxurious outdoor space includes a pool, vegetable garden and alfresco dining area.

“It was important for the homeowner to have a low-maintenance outdoor area that doubled as the activities and entertainment hub of the home,” Adrian says.

“The stone feature wall complements the alfresco area and the small garden bed allows for a vegetable patch without all the fuss of a lawn and seasonal gardens.”
