Modern, functional and easy living meets the brief

Unique, fresh, functional and exclusive; these are the descriptors that often go hand-in-hand with custom builds.

Switch Homes’ latest project at 118a Toorak Road, Rivervale is certainly no exception.

Construction Manager Adrian Schneeberger said the brief required large, communal and open living spaces.
“The family now has adult children and wanted a large family home with multiple living spaces for everyone to enjoy; not just together, but with the opportunity to have their own personal retreat too,” he said.

Starting off with a stunning front facade, a stone feature echoes the colours of the garage and front renders, with distinctive geometrics and palettes used to draw the eye.

“The owners were looking for a naturally inspired colour palette and the stone provides, not just an interesting feature, but a textural element to the front of the home,” Mr Schneeberger said.

“The earthy greys and natural tones are carried throughout the home and include bamboo roofing to the alfresco and balcony, natural stone and marble for flooring and benchtops and dark laminate in the kitchen, pulling from the stone feature.”

Designed to include five bedrooms, three bathrooms, a three-car garage and, of course, a pool, the home is so packed with features it’s hard to go past it as a perfect example of modern, functional living.

Each of the five bedrooms needed to accommodate simplistic, easy living. As a result, they are larger than average and boast walk-in wardrobes for an extra kick of convenience.

The bathrooms didn’t miss out on the chance to exceed expectations either.

“A full-height, obscured window provides all the light you need, with artificial lighting assisting thanks to the smart lighting plan,” Mr Schneeberger said.

“Within the master ensuite a double vanity also hides the walk-around full-height tiled shower, making the ensuite feel private and luxurious.”

The home isn’t without gorgeous views either, courtesy of a stunning upstairs balcony.

“There is one balcony at the front of the house with views out to the Perth Hills,” Mr Schneeberger said. “It’s another sanctuary in which to escape the daily grind.

“The balcony also offers plenty of space for entertaining, with room for a dining suite or comfy lounges to take in the sunset with a glass of wine, or two.”

In addition to an upstairs sitting room, theatre, dining room and gorgeous balcony views, the rear of the home showcases the pool, a vegetable garden and alfresco dining area, allowing the owners to soak up and enjoy Perth’s famous summer weather.

If you’re thinking this all sounds high maintenance, you might be surprised.

“It was important for the home owner to have a low-maintenance outdoor area that doubled as the activities and entertainment hub of the home,” Mr Schneeberger said.

“The stone feature wall complements the alfresco area and the small garden bed allows for a vegetable patch without all the fuss of lawn and seasonal gardens.”
